HaMorah Michelle’s math class has a new favorite game! It’s called 1,2,3 flip! In this game, students each draw 2 cards. The lower number card from each student’s hand becomes the numerator, and the higher number card becomes the denominator of their fraction. The students use the many strategies for fraction analysis that they have been learning to compare the values of each of their fractions, and the student with the highest fraction wins a point. Some favorite student strategies are making common denominators, evaluating distance from zero or one, relating the fraction to one half, etc.
