We have been building our reading stamina in kindergarten!
This week, we read the story “Dex, the Heart of a Hero,” by Caralyn Buehner and Mark Buehner. In the story, Dex works to build up his exercising stamina so that he can be a superhero. He trains and practices and slowly gets stronger. We discussed how we will be doing the same thing throughout this year, except we will build our reading stamina. We will train and practice and add a little more time when we read. Just like Dex, we will start small and then work up to reach our goal.
This week, we began to work together to see how long we can each read a book quietly and in our own space. Right now, we are working on our first goal of 10 minutes. This week we already built some stamina! We went from 4 minutes of silent reading to 7 minutes today. Way to go, Te’enah! We have been recording our reading minutes on a graph. This serves as a great visual in seeing our daily progress as we add on more minutes.
