Students in HaMorah Michelle’s Math and ELA classes had a special visit from Mr. Jeff Rodman of Fidelity Investments this morning. Both classes are playing The Stock Market Game where they are given $100,000 to invest in stocks, bonds, and mutual funds with the goal of growing it as much as possible over the course of the year. In ELA, in addition to learning job skills and about various careers in the community, students have been learning finance vocabulary each week (such as high yield bonds, diversification, maturity, coupon rate, etc.) to help increase financial literacy. Mr. Rodman spoke to students about publicly traded and private companies, researching stocks, and evaluating risk. I continue to be impressed by the growth in financial awareness of students as the unit progresses.
