Dear Families,
We began getting ready for reading this week by doing a practice comprehension packet about the book Arthur’s Family Vacation by Marc Brown. Students are learning to answer applied, literal and interpretive questions about stories in full sentences. Next, I began listening to the some of the children read and I put them into their own books based on their individual reading levels. I will continue this into next week.
To tie into our reading packets, we began discussing what a complete sentence needs to contain besides a capital and a period, question mark or exclamation point. Students are asked to look for the who or what of a sentence. If those are missing we can’t figure out what a sentence is really about.
We also began writer’s workshop and learned that we can turn even the simplest or most boring idea into an amazing story.
Josh is writing about a pig who eats grass.
Zalmen is writing about the time he got locked in the bathroom.
Ben is writing about his trip to New York.
Yafa is writing about two princesses.
Jillian is writing about a girl who had too much hair.
Nir is writing about animals that want to go to the circus.
Shabbat Shalom,
Hamorah Caren
