It was great to be back together again this week after our Passover vacation. Chalav students have been busy preparing for their upcoming Siddur Ceremony. In Writers’ Workshop, children have been writing about tefillah. They have been answering questions like, What do you like about tefillah? What is your favorite tefillah? Where do you like to pray? and so forth. We will be assembling these pages into booklets and the children will share these with their families at the Siddur Ceremony itself. The students also have been working hard on learning a couple of new tefillot and on using the their growing ability to read Hebrew to follow along in the siddur while they sing.
In Fundations, we have been continuing to practice Magic E (also known as vowel consonant e) words and words with the suffixes: s, ing and ed. The children are working on long vowel sounds as well. We will continue to practice this skills as we move into next week as well.
Math has focused on fact families and reviewing and expanding the children’s facility with addition and subtraction. We had fun playing the game “Mother May I” yesterday with math facts.
Our read-alouds have been focusing on non-fiction as we begin our study of non-fiction books and what they entail. We have noticed that non-fiction books generally have a table of contents at the beginning and often include photographs rather than illustrations. We will continue to examine non-fiction books throughout the month of May.
We had a lovely morning today with our special visitors.
Shabbat Shalom,
Hamorah Joanne
