As we fast approach our December “vacation,” the new year, and as we are digging out from our first major winter storm, I want to take a moment to reflect with you on what we have accomplished.
As late as mid-August I was still holding on to the hope of opening the school year with most students on-site. By the end of August it was clear that we could not open on-site learning to any student above Kindergarten age due to the rising Covid numbers in our area. But as the weeks progressed it became clear to us that (a) we could conduct ourselves in a safe manner according to expert advice, and thereby minimize risk, and (b) the data coming out of schools in the area showed virtually no spread of infection based in school activity. In other words, we became confident that if we re-introduced students and staff into the building in phases that we could handle having a viable on-site learning option.
Though incredibly anxious at first, it is now a marvel to see how our incredible staff has adapted and overcome their inhibitions in order to create a successful learning environment for students, both remote and on-site synchronously. We hold weekly face to face, or Panim el Panim, events for all students outdoors and onsite. Seeing the students together is a blessing of joy, and I thank G-d every week we are able to make this happen.
Simply put, we have now accomplished what many thought could not be done, and we’re improving our practices daily. Thank you, for your consistent and continued support through these uncharted waters. We are doing well, and heading in the right direction.
Stay warm and keep the light from the Chanukiah glowing in your hearts.
Shabbat shalom,
