Dear Friends of MWJDS,
Week two in fourth grade was great! We started our first Guided Reading book of the year, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. We also joined fifth graders to play a really fun Math game which I can only describe as Math-Scrabble. Each time a student had a turn, he/she had to add a new true math equation to a scrabble board. Each equation had to connect to one of the older equations in some way.
On Wednesday fourth graders met their kindergarten buddies! We played a really adorable (and silly) getting-to-know-each-other game. Students had to pretend their tushies were pencils and write their name with their “pencils” on an imaginary piece of paper. Needless to say, a lot of tushy wiggling and tushy shaking ensued (and a lot of giggling too, of course!). Here is a picture of fourth graders and their kindergarten buddies drawing with their tushies.
On Thursday we celebrated Maayan’s birthday (which was actually over Labour Day weekend). Students collaborated to make a “Wordle” for Maayan which included lots of different words that students associate with Maayan and/or think describe her. Here is the Wordle, which Maayan got a print-out of.
Today students read 3 articles from Time For Kids and discussed them. Ask your fourth grader to tell you about the articles and where he/she stands on the issues the first article we read (about concussions in soccer) raised.
Next week we will start new units in Science and Study Skills.
Until then, have a wonderful weekend and a restful Shabbat.
Best,
Hamorah Eliza
