So much happened this week!
Here are some of our highlights:
With Hamorah Joanne’s class, we had our very first Havdallah of the year. We talked about why we begin the week this way and why we have this ceremony. What a special way to start off our Monday.
With the 4th graders, we did some buddy reading. It was so nice to sit with our friends and enjoy some great books!
We have been exploring tiles and unifix cubes in math and will be using them to introduce patterns next week. We enjoyed exploring these manipulatives and sharing with the group what we built or created.
The Chalav and D’vash classes heard one of Hamorah Nitzan’s favorite stories, “Have You Filled a Bucket Today?” by Carol McCloud. The story is based off the idea that everyone in the world carries an imaginary bucket with them. Whenever you are kind or help someone, your bucket gets a little bit fuller, making you a “bucket filler.” This week, we shared about times when our buckets feel full, both in and out of school.
We read “The World’s Birthday” by Barbara Diamond Goldin and Jennette Winter. In this story, a young boy celebrates Rosh Hashanah by throwing a birthday party with his friends and family for the world. We discussed what types of wishes we had for the world on its upcoming birthday. We decorated paper candles to represent these wishes and displayed them on a paper cake. Our beautiful birthday cake will be up next week!
We will be having science this year with the D’vash class. With Hamorah Joanne, we began our new unit, Growing Things. We started off talking about what it means to grow and what can grow. The students worked on a preassessment, drawing what they think a plant looks like and what it needs to grow.
Questions to ask your Chalav student (to get them talking about school!):
*When does your bucket feel full?
*What was your wish for the world’s birthday?
*What is the Pom Pom jar?
*What book did your buddies read to you?
*What is DEAR time?
