There is a tremendous amount of excitement in the second grade! The students have been begging me to start our individual country studies and this week we finally did! Students began learning about Russia, Canada, Israel, India, Qatar, England and Egypt. Our focus was on creating “Talking Maps.” We have so much work to do which will culminate in an International Fair later in the year. Details to follow. See some photos of students starting research.
In science, we began a new unit on air and weather. First and second graders used bubbles to learn about air movement. They asked and answered some of the following questions:
– What is inside a bubble?
– What is outside a bubble? Can you see it?
– What moves bubbles around?
– Where will the bubbles go? (wind direction)
– What do you wonder about the wind?
We continue to review grammar skills learned including parts of speech, using a dictionary, punctuation and synonyms and antonyms. On Wednesday we played a fun game called “I Have, Who Has?” with synonyms and antonyms. See photos below.
And, finally, my math group jumped into learning about double digit addition and subtraction. We will be covering regrouping next week.
