Chalav students have been busy learning about small moment stories. Students chose three seed ideas for new stories and began writing them this week in Writer’s Workshop. Our read-alouds have focused on “mentor” texts for writing small moment stories. These “mentor” texts provide examples of stories with lots of detail but focused on small moments. Some of the books we read include: Roller Coaster by Marla Frazee, Owl Moon by Jane Yolen and The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats.
The children had a lot of fun acting out a story in Hebrew, Eliezer Ve’hagezer (Eliezer and the Carrot) with Hamorah Dalia and our shlichim from Israel, Lihi and Omri. They made masks and then took on different roles using their Hebrew.
In math we have continued our study of coins. Children are beginning to practice “buying” small items with their coins. We also have been working on learning place value for ones and tens.
Despite the rather rainy week, we have managed to get out to enjoy our playground on most days.
We have been struck by illness a bit this week and have had a few students out sick on various days. I hope everyone will be well for our exciting week next week when we go on our trip to the aquarium and celebrate Chanukkah.
In tefillah, we have been talking about the section of the morning service called Pesukei D’Zimra. We spoke about praising God and practiced praising each other. We worked on the blessings for the Chanukkah candles.
Shabbat Shalom and Best Wishes for a Joyful Chanukkah,
Hamorah Joanne
