M.C.Escher came to the MFA last year but he is The Artist of the Year this year at MWJDS!
The students liked the slide presentation about Escher’s work. They learned about his life, especially the fact that he failed second grade, and were intrigued by the concept of tessellations, the integration of two dimensional and three dimensional objects in one piece, and, of course, by his impossible structure. The lower school classes are working on their first project – learning how to turn an object from two dimensional to three dimensional with interrupting straight lines with curved lines while mastering the tricky use of chiseled markers. The upper school’s first project will be learning how to draw an impossible triangle. The fun has just begun.
