This Tuesday and Wednesday was Rosh Chodesh, the beginning of the new Jewish month of Cheshvan. We started this month, according to our new tradition with a visit from a guest from Jewish history. Ruth, the traditional model of a Jew-by-choice, came to morning assembly to speak to our students about her respect and devotion to her mother-in-law Naomi, and to the Jewish people and God. (Thanks, Beth Null!) So we are starting our month of focusing on the midah, the good quality, of Kavod, Respect. We’ll be encouraging students to think about their classmates, their teachers and of course their parents with respect before they speak and act. Check out our Midah of the Month bulletin board, with pictures and thoughts on what kavod means and looks like. And comment here on how you might encourage more of the midah of kavod at home this month.
