It was wonderful to have a full week of school this week. Te’enah students have been very, very busy.
In math, the children are finishing up q unit on addition and subtraction of numbers to 10. All of the first grade mathematicians did very well on one assessment of their learning in this unit. We will be reviewing all that we have learned in the first four chapters of Math in Focus and will be completing a cumulative assessment of all 4 chapters at the beginning of next week. We had an introduction to our geometry unit which will continue after Thanksgiving. The children continue to especially enjoy our games of Pico, Fermi, Bagel. Ask your child to teach you how to play!
The children have been listening to a number of Kevin Henkes books. We watched a video about him and the process he follows as a writer. The children have each chosen one of his books to use as the basis for an independent project and have begun work on this.
In science, we completed our study of the moon. Many of the children reported that they were able to see the supermoon earlier this week. In social studies, we have been learning about Thanksgiving. This week, the children talked about things that they are thankful for in their own lives. These included: family, friends, pets, food, water, cats, the internet and many other items.
In Tanakh, we read the story of Noah and the ark and in Jewish Living and Learning, we have been learning about the synagogue and the ritual objects here. We were able to take a close look at the torah and the beautiful items inside the ark. Shabbat Shalom, Hamorah Joanne
