There have been so many exciting and fun moments this week in Rimon. The children began learning about the holiday of Rosh HaShannah. We read the book called “The Hardest Word” about the creature, the Ziz, who is sent by God to search for the “hardest word.” In the end, the Ziz realizes that the hardest word is “sorry.” The children learned the Hebrew word, Teshuvah, repentance, which involves us thinking about and trying to be better people in the coming year. The highlight of our lesson happened when each first grader had a few chances to blow shofar.
Another highlight of the week was gym with “Knucklebones.” The children had a wonderful time doing sack races and playing with the parachute together with the second grade students.
The next few weeks in Rimon will focus on reviewing and assessing math and phonics skills. In Fundations, which is our phonics program, we began reviewing how to write lower case letters. We will be going through all the letters of the alphabet over the next number of weeks. Rimon students also began working in our math program, Math in Focus
Rimon students have begun their “All About Me” books. We will be continuing this project as part of our Writer’s Workshop program over the next month or so. We read the book “Chrysanthemum” by Kevin Henkes about a girl and her wonderful but challenging very long name. The children have been sharing information about their own beautiful names.
Throughout the first six weeks of school or so we are focusing on learning the rules and routines of school.
Best wishes for a wonderful Shabbat,
Hamorah Joanne
