The Holiday Hesed, Kindness Drive
By the Seorah / Gefen 7th and 8th grade mitzvah project class
The 7th and 8th graders have been collecting money to give to the Natick Service Council to provide for six families that are in need of a Thanksgiving meal. The school raised about $700 which not only helped to buy the six Thanksgiving dinners but helped us do so much more.
On Monday 19th 2018, we went to Temple Israel, where there was also a turkey drive for Natick Service council, to bring their turkeys, along with ours to the food Pantry.
When we got to Temple Israel, we all stood in a line from the back door to a truck to load the frozen turkeys into. We passed the turkeys from one person to the other, all the way to the truck. We loaded 60 turkeys, some small some big, into the truck. Then, we got back into the car to go to Natick Service Council Food Pantry. We unloaded all those turkeys into carts and brought them inside where we made another assembly line into a large freezer to store the turkeys. After all the turkeys had been put into the freezer, we got a tour of the Natick Service Council Food Pantry. We saw other people making packages for families in the area. We also learned that the turkeys we helped bring weren’t only for the 6 families our school was sponsoring but also was a part of helping feed hundreds of families a Thanksgiving dinner. We gave them an additional cash donation that we raised in our drive.
After we loaded up the turkeys and dropped them off, we took a field trip to Target, where we spent over $400 buying toys for kids in hospitals. The toys go to individual kids in hospitals for them to keep. We donated all of the toys that we bought to the organization, Rofeh. At Target, we used a calculator to make sure that we didn’t go over our budget. We hope the toys bring some joy to the recipients this holiday season.
Thank you all for your support!
