My math group completed our unit on fractions. We ended the unit by using fraction fun cards. There were 40 that kids could choose from and they asked all sorts of questions. Some students created things to show fractions, some drew colorful pictures and others answered questions, either written or orally. There was something for everyone! My grammar group practiced locating entry words in the dictionary. We worked on Dictionary Dudes (see below). Each child was given a different word to locate in the dictionary. They had to tell the page number where they found the word, the guide words, part of speech, definition and use the word in a sentence. Ben’s word was sizzle.
And, finally, my second graders learned all about The White House this week. Did you know . . . .that the White House was set on fire in 1812 and had to be rebuilt? . . . that it used to be called the Executive Mansion? . . . that the ground floor library used to be a laundry room? . . . that it has 35 bathrooms and 28 fireplaces?
