Chalav students have continued their exploration of shapes this week. We read short poems about shapes and went on a shape hunt around the classroom. It is amazing to see how much of our world is formed by geometric shapes! Children practiced building more complex shapes with other smaller shapes. We played a game using shape blocks to build hexagons. Chalav students learned that hexagons can be made with various combinations of other shapes including triangles, trapezoids and rhombuses.
In Fundations, we have been practicing words with glued sounds. More specifically, we have been working on words ending in the following letter combinations: ing, ung, ang, ong. Next week, we will move on to more glued sound endings. We have also been reviewing our list of trick words. Our word wall is getting quite full and we will be adding new trick words this coming week.
Children have been fascinated by the biographies that we have been reading about Dr. Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks. They were especially taken by Dr. King’s dream that all children, not matter what the color of their skin, could be friends. Please stop by the bulletin board outside our classroom to see what the children had to say about Dr. King’s dream and about their own dreams for making the world a better place.
In Hebrew, we are lucky to have our wonderful two shlichim from Israel joining us in class every Thursday. The children especially love acting out little stories and skits using their Hebrew.
