Te’enah mathematicians completed their study of geometry this week. After excelling on the geometry assessment, students had time to explore shapes by building models or using the shape stampers.
In Writers’ Workshop, Te’enah students brainstormed ideas and began writing personal narratives. In a personal narrative the writer tells the true story of something that happened to him/her. We have been reading some personal narratives as well, for instance, Peter’s Chair by Ezra Jack Keats, and Shortcut by Donald Crews. Within personal narrative writing, we are focusing on small moment stories ie stories that have a narrow focus on a small event. A great example of a small moment story is a book called roller coaster in which the author takes the whole book to describe her first ride on a roller coaster with her dad. We will be working on personal narrative writing for quite a while, certainly into next year.
Te’enah and Chalav students had a great time doing a Chanukkah art project yesterday with our shlichim, Saar and Yoav.
In Fundations, we are learning about words that end in the letters: ung, ing, ang or ong. These include words such as lung, sing, rang and song. We refer to these as glued sounds, combinations of letters for which you say all the sounds but they are said very closely together. After vacation, we will learn another set of glued sounds: ank, ink, unk and onk.
We celebrated two birthdays this week with the Chalav class as well. The children also enjoyed our trip to the Scholastic Book Fair.
Shabbat Shalom,
