The leaves are changing. It feels sometimes lately like everything is changing. This is an abnormal year in so many ways. There are things we can’t control, and there are things we can control. There is much we don’t know about the coming months. Yes, there are things we can’t know at this time. And yet there are things we know for sure, no matter what.
Here’s what I know for sure:
I know that…
• We have a very special thing going on in our school. I know this because I meet you online and at Panim el Panim and First Friday FC.
• Our teachers, support staff, and administrators understand their work this year (above all others) will have an incredible impact on our students and families. I know this because we talk about the importance of our efforts daily, and we’re living it, too.
• Each and every staff member at MWJDS is giving their all to establish normalcy, wellbeing, and growth for each child. I know this because I visit classes on Zoom and in Kindergarten.
• At this school, each child is an individual and is approached in a unique manner according to who they are, what they like, and what they need to support growth. I know this because I work closely with Ali Butter, Michelle, the teachers, and support staff, and because I speak with parents.
• Though Covid-19 has caused us to live/learn/and teach remotely, we do everything we can to help our students feel a sense of belonging and camaraderie, especially during PeP.
• We don’t always get things right, and there is always room for improvement. I know this because without 360 degree feedback we can’t see from every perspective (starting at the top with me, and that is why I am so open to your feedback and collaboration).
• It’s our job to partner together to bring as much normalcy to each other and our children during an abnormal time.
Finally, I know we’re going to get through this together. We need to remind each other that, “if I have to go through this, I’m glad to be going through it with all of you.” We’re in this together.
It’s an honor to serve you and your children this year. Thank you for trusting us with this sacred process.
We should all be blessed with good health, happiness, and success this year.
