Part of the Jewish experience is to live in a dual reality.
Unfortunately, as I sit to write this week’s Head of School introduction to the weekly Meyda, it is with an especially heavy heart due to the tragic events unfolding in Israel. While we have not yet witnessed a true peace in the land of Israel, we have lived through periods of relative calm and hope. At this moment, as hundreds of rockets are being launched indiscriminately from Gaza into populated urban areas in Israel, as Israeli warplanes pound strategic locations in Gaza, and as violent riots have broken out in various towns where Israeli Jews and Arabs normally live in relative peace, it is hard to drum up hope. I hope and pray for the violence to stop very soon, for calmer heads to prevail, and for all people in that region to be able to sleep at night with security and peace.
FORTUNATELY, life keeps moving on at MWJDS. This Friday we have the annual Jewish milestone events for grades 3-6. We look forward to having as many parents as possible attend so that our students can demonstrate what they have been preparing in the realm of Torah learning. It will be a wonderful and inspiring event. The timing is perfect.
Shabbat shalom to you,
And shalom to those in Israel and Palestine
