It was wonderful to be back together again after a relaxing vacation. Te’enah students continued to learn about the Civil Rights movement during Social Studies this week. We read about Rosa Parks and the children made Rosa Parks figures. We compared Rosa Parks to some of the other “upstanders” we have been learning about in different curriculum areas including Ruby Bridges, Abraham Avinu (from the Torah) and Theodore Herzl, who we learned about this week in Jewish Living and Learning. Te’enah students also began applying the idea of being upstanders in their own lives.
The children’s Hebrew is growing by leaps and bounds. The continue to learn more and more Hebrew words and to write more and more Hebrew letters with Hamorah Dalia. They will finish learning to write script next week and they will be moving onto focusing on reading small stories in Hebrew.
One enthusiastic student even answered our English morning message in Hebrew.
In Fundations, we have completed our unit on glued sounds. Next week will begin the next chapter in the book, focusing on blends and “r controlled” words. We also finished a chapter in our math book and will be moving onto learn more strategies for adding and subtracting “bigger” numbers.
Shabbat Shalom, Hamorah Joanne
